ABOUT US

The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Malaysia drives and supports the growth of young people in Malaysia, so more young people can undertake the world’s leading youth achievement taward..

Working through with all our award units, NGO, Schools, Prison Department, Higher learning institutions and Corporate Sector, we are creating new ways and places for young people to do the Award, using innovative online tools. We work together with the foundation to increase global awareness of the value of non-formal education. This in turn creates demand for the Award, which is one way that young people’s development outside the classroom can be recognized tconsistently in Malaysia.

AMBITION

Since the Award’s launch nearly 60 years ago, millions of young people have participated in the Award, with millions more benefitting from its impact in communities around the world. Malaysia has started this award program 16 years ago and looking forward to touch lives of all the young people in Malaysia. By creating opportunities for young people to develop skills, get physically active, give service and experience adventure, the Award can play a critical role in their development outside the classroom. It also allows their achievement to be consistently recognized worldwide, giving young people unique international accreditation of their experiences.

Our ambition is that every young person aged 14 to 24 in the world should have the opportunity to participate in the Award.

HOW IS AN AWARD ACHIEVED?

Each young person who takes part in the Award learns a skill, improves their physical well being, volunteers in their community and experiences a team adventure in a new environment. All Participants are supported by a network of adult Award Leaders, Assessors, Supervisors, and mentors.

THE KEY ELEMENTS OF OUR PROGRAME ARE:

Open to all between the ages of 14 to 24.
  • Three levels: Bronze, Silver, and Gold, each progressively more challenging.
  • Four Sections: Physical Recreation, Skill, Service, Adventurous Journey plus Residential Project(Gold Level only).
  • Achieving an Award recognises individual goal setting and self-improvement throughpersistence and achievement.

WHAT IMPACT DOES THE AWARD HAVE ON A YOUNG PERSON? THROUGH THIS CHALLENGING JOURNEY OF SELF-DISCOVERY, OUR PARTICIPANTS:

  • Are equipped and empowered to achieve their personal best;
  • Learn to take responsibility for their goals and choices;
  • Become connected to and actively engaged within their immediate community;
  • Make a real difference to society through their positive contributions and involvement;
  • Learn to persevere and overcome barriers to success;
  • Learn important life skills; Are equipped and empowered to achieve their personal best;
  • Increase their career opportunities.

A LONGSTANDING GLOBAL NETWORK

Today over 140 countries have adopted The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award program and more than 8 million young people have participated worldwide. Locally over 300,000 young people have completed the Award in Malaysia in the past 16 years, with on average 20,000 very diverse participants annually working towards achieving an Award.
